Material is at the heart of Elise Chalmin's creative approach because it carries and sublimates the color and drawing stroke of its creator. It must be qualitative , ennobled in the best conditions and come from the most virtuous sources possible.

The quality of the materials

Élise Chalmin favors natural materials but also offers fibers derived from wood cellulose. Zoom in on these choice materials:

RAW MATERIALS

A. Silk:

Elise's favorite, silk is light , breathable and of impeccable quality. Silk makes colors shine , giving them a very special intensity. Silk embodies the lightness and luminosity dear to the brand.

B. Lyocell:

Derived from cellulose , lyocell is heavier than silk, it has a beautiful movement that follows you, as if you were leaving a trace of your audacity. Its rendering is more matte , which allows us to play on the intensities in our collections.

C. Wool:

Elise is often cold and likes to wrap herself up in woolen pieces. What she loves above all is pure wool . At Elise Chalmin, we will often find it carded because it is more colorful, sometimes combed for a smoother finish like the silk that is dear to us.

THE TESTING PROCESSES

Each Élise Chalmin piece must be able to be passed on , which is why we ensure the quality of each of the materials: laboratory tests, wear tests, washing tests.

Each customer feedback is studied to continuously improve our collections.

OUR LIMITS

We are not perfect but we are progressing. Because we must stay the course and celebrate each victory, we openly share with you the limits we encounter in combining creativity and eco-responsibility.

  • Our size and the variety of our creative proposals means that we have less impact on our purchases: today, we cannot always choose. In addition, the vast majority of certified wools are offered in rather dull colors. As we grow, we will always put our ecological convictions forward to realize our custom requests.
  • In our sweaters, the choice of pure wool with a generous rendering implies a more important maintenance at home which has been criticized. We must sometimes make the choice to add in certain models knitted in a looser way, a hint of materials that we would like to do without if it were not for questions of lifespan of our products.

CREATING FROM WHAT EXISTS: UPCYCLING

Because it is also exciting to seek creativity elsewhere to enrich our collections, we regularly design pieces from dormant stocks, whether they belong to us or to other Houses.

For the spring-summer 2024 collection, 9.5% of our products were made using an upcycling approach.

ENNOBLING

Print is at the heart of our collections, so it seems essential to us that our materials are correctly dyed and printed. As a result, we are very proud that in the spring-summer 2024 collection, 97.5% of our materials have the Standard 100 by Oekotex certification.

This label guarantees the safety of textiles or products used during the production process, for humans and the environment.
